According to a note from the Russian portal Actualidad RT, riots and clashes with security forces have been reported in several departments of the New Granada nation, including Medellín.
Earlier, the mayor of the city of Cali, located southwest of Bogotá, Colombia, Maurice Armitage, decreed a curfew, starting at seven o'clock in the middle of the national strike that takes place in the nation.
"No citizen of Cali can be on the street after that time because he will be arrested," said the mayor of the city, quoted by local media.
The protesters, who protest against the neoliberal measures and the supposed "labor package" and pension reform prepared by Duque, were accompanied by retirees and teachers from colleges and universities, after the call made on October 4 during the National Meeting of Emergency sponsored by the Unitary Central of Workers of Colombia (CUT).
Before this call, on Wednesday Duke signed a decree allowing the mayors to decree curfews in their departments, in order to preserve "public order and guarantee the right to public demonstration, peaceful and without weapons" .
"If necessary, mayors may restrict and monitor the movement of people through roads and public places, decree curfews, restrict or prohibit the sale and consumption of intoxicating beverages, among others," says the decree.
